Arju Miah set up the Taj Mahal restaurant in Chippenham in 1989. The restaurant has received many awards over the years including British Curry Awards, British Bangladesh Business Link Award, and a silver award from the Gourmet Wining and Dining Guide. Arju Miah is also on the Master Chef Role of Honour for 1999-2000. He has an MBE, a British Muslims Honours Award, was a President of the Chippenham and District Chambers of Commerce and Industry and a treasurer of the Bangladesh Association in Swindon. Arju Miah is also the Founder Trustee and treasurer of the Hazrat Shajal Mosque in Swindon, the Founder member and Vice Chairman of the Jagonathpur British-Bangla Education Trust, and on the Board of directors and former UK Chairman for the BFA. He is also a member of the British Bangla Chamber of Commerce BBCC as well as Chairman of the greater Dawrai Community Association UK.

Alongside this, Arju has raised funds for the Bangladesh Flood Disaster, Cancer Research, Wessex Children Hospice, and orphanages in Bangladesh. He is the Coordinator for the SIDR Cyclone Bangladesh Appeal and also raised funds for the Bangladesh Female Academy; a free school for the girls from the underprivileged areas of Bangladesh. Arju is married and has five children who are all heavily involved in the business.
